Take A Tour Of 1960s Ireland With This Lively Collection Of Vintage Snapshots

This collection of historic snapshots from the National Library of Ireland gives us a peek into the day-to-day life of the Irish during the 1960s.

You'll spot locations like the bustling city of Dublin or iconic scenes from Galway and Kildare. And the coolest part? Thanks to writer contributions on the Flashbak website, we now know a little bit about what's actually happening in these photos as well at their date and location details.

Take this alleyway shot for example. Vendors have covered both sides of the walkway with make-shift furniture and clothing displays. In between all the junk, a little boy runs down the middle of the alley wearing a fishing sweater, tiny shorts, and socks with sandals. And as it turns out, the little boy in the shot is still alive and remembers the shot.

“My name is Colm Irwin and I was about 3," the subject recalls. "It was strange how I came across the image it was in the evening had just looked at Sky News and for some unknown reason googled images of old Dublin and there was this image."

"It’s a bit surreal seeing yourself in the picture. Haven’t really changed – a good bit taller and I still have my own teeth …” he concludes.
