The "Knife Angel" Is An Anti-Violence Monument Made Of Over 100,000 Knives

Ever wonder what happens to knives confiscated by the police? Normally, they get held somewhere and likely destroyed.

But in this clever example of recycling, over 100,000 confiscated knives were used to build a giant angel monument. Designed by UK sculpture Alfie Bradley, the Knife Angel is a size-able reminder of the impact of knife violence.

Bradley sourced the knives from bins which were placed all over the UK in the "Save a Life, Surrender Your Knife" campaign. It's illegal to carry a knife in the UK, so the campaign was staged in hopes that people would willingly disarm themselves.

In addition to the campaign bins, the artist went around collecting knives from various police forces. Before adding them to the sculpture, each knife was cleaned and blunted, rendering the final angel statue safe for public interaction.

The Knife Angel stands 27 feet tall in total.
