This Mexican Island Is Covered In Dolls And Creepy As Hell

Known as La Isla De Las Muñecas, or Island of Dolls, this creepy island in Mexico is rumored to come alive at night, the dolls inhabited by the spirit of a young drowned girl.

Sounds like a movie, right? But this is real life. And if you have the guts to visit, you can find the haunted spot in the Xochimilco canals, just outside Mexico City.

The story goes that a man named Don Julin Santana left his wife and child in the 1950s and moved to the island. There, he lived alone as the sole caretaker.

One day, he found the body of a young girl. She had drowned in the canal there and her tortured spirit never left.

In a bizarre move, Santana hung the girl's doll on a tree and then continued to cover the island with more dolls in her honor. According to him, the girl's spirit inhabited the dolls and, because he had a good relationship with the ghost, he became obsessed with hanging as many dolls as he could get his hands on.

Santana never cleaned or mended the dolls, meaning most are eye-less and half-ruined, creating an eerie atmosphere.

After 50 years on the island, Santana drowned to death. And in a strange twist of fate, he body was found floating in the same spot that he claimed to have found the girls so many years before.
