These photos by Brain Duffy capture the energy and stardom of the "Swinging Sixties" era in all it's fashion-forward glamour and oddities.

Famous for capturing characters like David Bowie on film, Duffy's work has become iconic over the years. Even if you don't recognize his name, you'll surely recognize his famous shots like the Alladin Sane cover. That's the one where Duffy drew a lightening bolt across Bowie's face, forever immortalizing the star.

Duffy began his photography career in 1959. He mostly shot commercial jobs for names like British Vogue, Glamour, and Esquire. Before long, Duffy became the go-to guy for fashion photography.

He reinvented fashion photography while simultaneously reinventing the way photographers stood socially. Riding the infectious wave of sixties celebrity, Duffy became a socialite among actors, pop stars, and royalty.

By 1979, Duffy was over it. He gave up photography completely and even attempted to torch all his negatives. Thankfully, his studio neighbors noticed the acrid smell and complained, forcing him to save some of his work.

Duffy died in 2010 at the age of 76 and is still hailed as highly influential in the world of photography.
