This Gallery Is Filled With 100 Massive Skulls In A Tribute To Death

This skull installation might just be the largest memento mori we've ever seen!

Created by Australian artist Ron Mueck, the piece is called Mass and features 100 hand-cast skulls. Each skull measures about 5 feet in height. In total, the collection weighs in at a staggering 5.5 tons!

Visitors are invited to explore the weird skull landscape, losing themselves in the massive scale of it all.

“Mass intrudes into the 18th Century Galleries like a glacier inching across a landscape, crowding out the powdered, bewigged lords and ladies, a reminder of all our fates,” Mueck says.

The piece was created for the National Gallery of Victoria's International Triennial and was featured along with an international lineup of artists from 32 countries around the world.
