The Future Of The Electric Car Is Right Now And It's Amazing

Over the past several years there's been a huge wave of interest in electric cars. It's an innovation that continues to capture the public’s imagination, frictionless travel in style and with speed.

The future of transport is constantly being redefined, even as you read this. Engines are becoming more efficient whilst processors are becoming faster and smaller.

A large part of this innovation has been driven by a desire to become less reliant on fossil fuels and to reduce our impact on the world's climate. People will still want powerful engines, to drive in comfort and to travel as they wish - those fundamentals will never change.

But just how far away are we from being able to get behind the wheel of an electric car? And when we do, will the experience be better than driving a conventional gas guzzling car?

One company ready to answer those questions is Mercedes-Benz, whose latest range of electric cars and devices aren’t prototypes. They’re not an attempt to market technology that is not ready for the roads. It's not a promise for the future. They represent the best and latest e-mobility technology available and best of all they’re ready now.

The new brand encompasses all key aspects for customer-focused electric mobility and extends beyond the vehicle itself. EQ offers a comprehensive electric mobility ecosystem of products, services, technologies and innovations.

The spectrum ranges from electric vehicles to wallboxes and charging services to home energy storage units.

The name EQ stands for "Electric Intelligence" and is derived from the Mercedes-Benz brand values of "Emotion and Intelligence".

In an increasingly connected world, the lines between technology and our daily lives are rapidly becoming entwined. Your computer has more power than the Apollo 11 that first took mankind to the Moon in 1969. Your smartphone allows you to instantly access more information than all the combined libraries in the world at the touch of a button.

But for the vast majority of individuals, the humble car has seen little change over the past three decades.

Until now.

The arrival of the electric car is a flash point in our uptake and adoption of high tech. A ground-breaking work of art, it's a new mode of transport that will have a profound and positive effect on our impact on the world for years to come.

To celebrate their brand new plug-in hybrid models, Mercedes-Benz created an incredible audio and visual project designed to encourage us all truly live in the moment and experience the now.

Multi award-winning choreographer, sound and visual artist Darren Johnston was part of a 12 hour live streaming film. It was captured using multiple live cameras, installations and data feeds before being programmatically edited into a single live stream on YouTube.

It's the perfect blend of technology, art, design and creativity by Mercedes-Benz. A bold and unique tribute to the new range of plug-in hybrid models themselves.
