Meet The World's First Pizza Delivery Robot

Late night pizza delivery just reached a new level of awesomeness thanks the ingenuity of Dominos Australia. This week, the pizza company released the world's first commercial autonomous delivery vehicle. Nicknamed the DRU (or Domino’s Robotic Unit), this military-grade robot may soon be delivering tasty goodness to pizza fans around the globe.

The DRU is the result of a collaboration between Domino's and Marathon Robotics. The prototype weights in at 450 pounds, can extend its inner hot and cold compartments to hungry customers, and carries pizza at a steady rate of 12.4 miles per hour.

According to reports, the DRU is fully autonomous, weather proof, and equipped with a sturdy aluminum interior to keep orders hot and ready. It's also armed with a laser-light sensor to detect and navigate around obstacles along its path.

If all goes well, we might be seeing these friendly little guys around tow in the next year or two!
