Artist Creates Fascinating Images By Cloning His Models

Some label Daisuke Takakura a photographer, others brand him an artist but the truth the Japanese visionary is a unique combination of both.

He’s recently been exploring the concept of “self”, that during our lifetime we evolve and change as individuals, that our views, morals and ethics are constantly being shaped and reshaped by the world around us.

The idea of an individual coming face to face with the countless versions of themselves inspired him to create the series ‘Monodramatic.’

It’s a fascinating collection of scenes whereby the central character has been cloned numerous times. There is no single focus point, just varying degrees of self.

As William Shakespeare once famously wrote: All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages.

To achieve the almost illusionary effect seen in his photographer, Takakura photographs his model interacting with themselves a single shot at a time, before creating a composition of all the images taking during the shoot.

The final works ultimately blur the line between reality and fantasy, a moment of oneself in all our various forms captured in a striking image.
