Kick-Ass Hello Kitty Pop Culture Characters You'll Love

First created back in 1974 by the Japanese company Sanrio, the global sensation that is the Hello Kitty character has now turned into a billion dollar enterprise.

Hard to believe isn't it?

One of the key reasons, is because she's so adaptable - there's not a item of merchandise that hasn't been made without her likeness on it. In fact, we're sure the CEO of NIKE might even have a few versions of her floating around his office.

As a result, the high-maintenance feline with the pink bow has now become the source of countless pop culture references. Without a doubt she sits side by side with the biggest franchises and names in entertainment. Hello Kitty isn't out-of-place alongside Star Wars, Daft Punk, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Batman for example.

But interestingly enough, nobody had thought about fusing the two together - the style of Hello Kitty mashed up with tributes to famous films, singers and musicians. That's where art director Joseph Senior comes in, what started out as a hobby has morphed into a series of seriously awesome custom Hello Kitty characters that pay tribute to popular culture.

What would Darth Vader meets Hello Kitty look like? And what if Lady Gaga underwent the Hello Kitty treatment? Well, through his incredible talent and eye for design, Joseph has brought that concept to life, along with many others!

You can view more of his custom characters via his official Flickr, do let us know which loveable pairing you'd buy if you had the chance?
