This Is What Star Wars Posters Looked Like In The Soviet Union

Back when communication between the West and East was still frozen over due to the Cold War, movies made in the USA had to be heavily censored before they could be played in Soviet countries.

Not only were the films censored, but the posters were, too. And while you would expect certain details to be removed, it looks like these Soviet artists decided to add a lot of extra details to the government-approved versions.

From the looks of things, Soviet Star Wars was a whole lot more riveting. Massive space monsters rise from black holes while space cowboys ride metal horses. Strange distortions and weird colors abound, causing these posters to look more like a bad acid trip than the 70s sci-fi epic we've come to know and love.

Keep scrolling for some of the best Soviet Star Wars poster specimens from Russia, Poland, and Hungary.
