This Clever Crosswalk 3D Illusion in Iceland Tricks Cars Into Driving Slower

Ísafjörður, a tiny fishing in Iceland, is designing 3D crosswalks to trick cars into driving a just a little slower.

The crosswalks look just like any other white striped crosswalk. Only there's one crucial addition– the stripes have shadows painted under them, making it look like the bars are levitating on the road.

According to locals in the town, this tricky crosswalk is effective in slowing traffic. When cars approach the line, it looks like pedestrians are floating on some kind of weird bridge.

Cities around the world have been testing this design. So far, other successful examples can be found in Russia, China, and India. Take a look at the more colorful version being tested in Beijing.
