This Shipping Container Mansion Is The Perfect Desert House Hide-Away

Nestled in the desert outside LA, this fascinating star-burst style home was designed by James Whitaker to be built with a collection shipping containers.

The home was commissioned after Whitaker's original proposal to build the structure in German fell through. The current plan is to construct it in the Joshua Tree National Park, just outside LA.

Construction for the building will begin next year with the plan promising 2,153 square feet of living space. The design includes a living room, kitchen, dining area and three bedrooms.

"Each container is orientated to maximize views across the landscape, or to use the topography to provide privacy, depending on their individual use," Whitaker says.

Once built, the design will be supported on concrete pillars in a dry gully. Whitaker's design calls for the shipping containers to be painted white as a simple exoskeleton to house the inner living area. This creates a striking contrast between the simple exterior and rugged surrounding landscape.
