This Massive Mural Of A Refugee On A French Dam Is A Powerful Statement

Ella & Pitr is a French street-art duo with an affinity for large-scale pieces that highlight neglected societal groups.

For their latest endeavor, the artists recruited a "rope-team" to tackle this massive mural painted on the side of a dam. Titled "The shipwreck of Bienvenu", the piece depicts a refugee resting in a low-point between mountains in La Valla-En Gier, Rhone-Alpes, France.

The character wears a life jacket as if just shipwrecked recently.

He rests against the dam, perhaps waiting to be let past the barrier. Like the water blocked in place, many displaced people are trapped in one place, unable to move forward geographically or in any other way with their lives.

They are trapped between border and governments.
