Bizarre and Surreal Portraits That Question What It Means To Be 'Normal'

‘The Normals’ is a series of surreal, acid-tone portraits that capture Rio de Janeiro's most colorful creatives.

Shot and art directed by Pol Kurucz, the series sets models, performers, and actors in beautiful and strange scenes that beg the question, "What is normal, anyway?".

Children hold pink guns, a model eats a meat popsicle, and a football player lounges on the field surrounded by banana peels – these scenes could easily be normal, depending on your perspective.

“By definition most people are “normal”," the team wrote in the project statement. "Some want to be different and follow the norms of a specific social or cultural tribe. They are normal too."

"And there are those who would laugh at such nonsensical categorizations, who don’t believe in or live by conventions, who create their own reality and live it naturally. They are the subject of Kurucz’s last photo series, genuine eccentrics, weirdos and lunatics who in the eyes of the photographer are the new Normals.”
