Infrared Photos That Make California Look Like A Nuclear Fallout Zone

Infra Realism is a series by photographer Kate Ballis that channels neon apocalyptic vibes through iconic scenes of California.

The Melbourne-based photographer shot the series while traveling through the American west coast with an infrared camera. Rather than the expected scenes of sun palm trees and blissful beaches, Ballis's saturated images are almost threatening.

Is the sky on fire? Was there a nuclear fallout? The shades of acid neon seem to hint at a powerful energy pulsing just below the surface of reality.

“I am fascinated with unseen energy and am excited to create work that catches a glimpse of a world that exists just outside human perception, like a memory you can’t quite pinpoint“, she says.
