Russian Artist Customizes US Currency To Be Dangerous And Creepy

Russian artist Roman Booteen creates some of the creepiest counterfeit currency to ever grace this planet.

Have you seen his snapping coin with real jaws? We don't recommend you actually keep that one in your pocket. It looks like an accident waiting to happen.

Booteen's custom coins are known as "Hobo Nickels", a genre first popular with hobos and travelers beginning in the 18th century. Coins are easy to carry and cheap to source, so carrying a handful around to carve was a clever and affordable way to make art.

Though Booteen wasn't the first to delve into the genre, his strange and unusual style has set his work apart. The Russian's engraved coins have become highly sought after by "Hobo Nickel" collectors.

Don't believe us? Just take a look at the going price for his work on Ebay. Currently, Booteen's "Witch and Satyrs" coin is being auctioned off for $1,499 USD, which is pretty crazy if you think about the origin of the art medium.

Keep up to date with Booteen's work on Instagram. And if you're looking more custom coins, you can search for Hobo Nickels on Ebay.
