Vibrant Animals Murals Give New Life To Forgotten Trash

One man's trash is another man's treasure, especially if it ends up in the hands of Bordalo II. He's a magician when it comes to spinning garbage into art.

Bordalo II is a Portuguese street artist who specialises in breathing new life into junk he finds on the streets. For this Lisbon-raised muralist, converting trash to public art is a reminder to himself and others to live a little more like our frugal grandparents. Waste not, want not, right?

"I belong to a generation that is extremely consumerist, materialist and greedy," he says. "With the production of things at its highest, the production of "waste" and unused objects is also at its highest."

"I create, recreate, assemble and develop ideas with end-of-life material and try to relate it to sustainability, ecological and social awareness."
