The Internet Is Comparing Activated Charcoal Fish & Chips To The Most Unfortunate Things

We can't help it– watching food trends digress into absurdity is one of our favourite pastimes on the internet.

So what's on the menu for today's fresh oddity? Activated charcoal fish and chips, a strange twist on the classic dish that bears an unfortunate resemblance to a pile of charred tree branches.

Remember the ultra-healthy activated charcoal latte that blew up on social media? This is it's less-fortunate-looking seafood cousin

People are saying ‘This looks like something you’d see at the bottom of a toilet’, but in saying that, the response has been phenomenal.

This odd dish is being served up at the Long Story Short cafe in Melbourne, Australia. And despite the wave of insults the cafe as received on social media, the dish isn't coming off the menu anytime soon.

“We love having a wow factor with our food, one of the things we live for is seeing people’s reaction when they come to our cafe,” Ly Nguyen says.“People are saying ‘This looks like something you’d see at the bottom of a toilet’, but in saying that, the response has been phenomenal.”

And it's not just the novelty of the dish that people seem to like. According to only Nguyen, her customers finish the whole dish and many have said it's the best fish and chips they've had yet.

“All of this social media storm I think is really exciting – and I don’t take offense to it, because we’re the ones that are selling the dishes. Even though the response has been negative on social media it’s one of our most popular dishes now and we won’t be removing it anytime soon.”

Well, there you have it. Haters gonna hate, but in the end, those charred fish sticks are selling phenomenally well. So remember what your mom taught you and at least take one bite of your food before saying it's gross. You might just surprise yourself.
