Intimate Portraits Of The Artists And Hustlers Leading Jamaica's Dancehall Scene

Young Love is a point-and-shoot portrait of Jamaica’s dancehall culture. Shot in neon strip clubs, backyard parties, and inside homes, these snapshots are a tribute to the faces behind one of the island's favorite music genres.

Shot by London-based photographer Ivar Wigan, Young Love documents his two years spent living in Jamiaca. These are the characters behind the vibrant party scene which Wigan describes as “an institution of the island”. Whether its love or hate, everyone seems to have an opinion on dancehall.

“Church leaders speak out against it, parents might wag a finger at it, but all the youth of the nation live for their homegrown music culture," Wigam says.

"From the first minute you walk out of the airport you hear dancehall and reggae booming out of the taxis – those sounds follow you everywhere you go on the island. Jamaica is a land of strong passions and music is top of that list.”
