Father Of Six Captures What It's Like To Grow Up "On The Edge Of The World"

Alain LaBoile is a photographer and father to six. In his series La Famille, he shares intimate moments from the family's rural home life in southwest France.

While most parents do at least attempt to chronicle their children's childhood, LaBoile takes it one step further: he makes art from those moments. This series has been in the works since 2004, originally started as a way to assemble a photography portfolio.

As time passed, LaBoile began to feel more comfortable with his camera and the series took on a life of its own. This is the spirit of childhood, more wild and surreal than we normally see it.

"My work reflects our way of life, revolving around their childhood.," LaBoile says. "My photographs will be the testimony of that."

"In a way my approach can be considered similar to the one of an ethnologist. Though my work is deeply personal, it is also accessible, addressing human nature and allowing the viewer to enter my world and reflect on their own childhoods."
