Yosemite Looks Like Another Planet When Shot With Infrared Photography

Infrared photography can make even the most humble landscape look like a surrealist masterpiece. But when an infrared camera is turned on an already-incredible landscape, the results are dazzling.

Ryan Berg shot this series of landscapes during his recent trip to Yosemite. The infrared effect is utterly dreamy, rendering the iconic park as an alien world.

Waterfalls crash into blue boulders and pink foliage spreads across monumental cliffs as dark skies stretch overhead.

This is Yosemite from the perspective of a crash-landed spaceman.

Outside of the fascinating visual effects used for art, infrared photography can also be used to gauge the health of plants, making the setting of these photos especially interesting. The rose colors are camera-generated visualizations of infrared light as well as the various strengths of green.

The stronger the red color, the healthier the plant.
