This Bulgarian Guy Makes Post-Soviet Streets More Fun With Googly Eyes

Street artist Vanyu Krastev has a knack for seeing googly eye possibilities in just about any space. Under his trained hand, goofy cartoon faces emerge from trash heaps and crumbling sidewalks. He calls it "Eyebombing".

If you've ever walked the streets of Bulgaria, then you understand what Krastev is working with— broken grates, cracked poles, and forgotten trashcans. Walking down the street can be pretty grim if you aren't looking for the silver lining.

But that's where Krastev's obsession with googly eyes comes in. Thanks to his seemingly endless supply of the plastic eyes, walking through the streets of Bulgaria is a scavenger hunt for hidden faces.

We want to inspire massive eyes everywhere where it will bring a smile to people in a bland routine

No matter how disgusting or broken the object, everything looks better with googly eyes.

"Eyebombing challenges the forms of the external environment so we can look at the world around us in a different way," Krastev says of his work. "We want to inspire massive eyes everywhere where it will bring a smile to people in a bland routine."
