If Dalí Made Shoes, They'd Probably Look Like This

Tel Aviv-based artist Costa Magarakis his inner storyteller by making some of the strangest shoes on earth. If Salvador Dalí was in the fashion world today, he'd certainly be drawn to these.

With tiny, surreal details and bizarre embellishments, looking at Magarakis' shoes will make you feel like you've fallen down Alice's rabbit hole. Heeled boots morph into undead birds. Stilettos grow scorpion legs. And orange ankle boots become tiny pirate ships.

The grotesque and the unknown are all important themes in the body of my work.

Sure, the shoes aren't functional, but that's not the point. They aren't meant for walking. These crazy shoes tell stories about a gothic wonderland.

"I often find archetypes in old children’s books and toys," Magarakis says. "I am attracted to things that evoke memories from childhood. The grotesque and the unknown are all important themes in the body of my work. I try to express something from my inner mind."
