They Trekked Everest To Get The Most Epic Wedding Photos Ever

Though this epic wedding shoot may look stylized and effortless, climbing Everest is no piece of cake. Any way you slice it, the mountain is a brutal test of will-power and strength.

This shoot was planned by photographer Charleton Churchill and mountaineers James Sissom and Ashley Schmiedes. Churchill had been hoping to photograph a fully-dressed wedding on Everest since 2011. When the couple came to him with the idea of trekking to basecamp for a tux and gown wedding, he was sold.

These photos represent countless hours of training, weeks of trekking, and all the obstacles associated with climbing Everest. Both the photographer and the couple stretched themselves to their limits to capture these shots.

Often times when striving for something great, there’s usually a cost. There’s no glory without suffering.

"It’s one of the most epic and beautiful locations in the world that’s difficult to get to, and nobody’s done it before. So we are thrilled to have finally pulled it off," he says.

But the shoot wasn't without challenges. Below-freezing temperatures, altitude sickness, and snow slowed the group down. And those killer shots of Ashely in her wedding gown? You can't tell from the photos, but she was braving -5 degree temperatures on the Fahrenheit scale.

"Now saying this was an epic and amazing trip is true, but I would be remiss if I didn’t share it came with some suffering, doubt, fear, anxiety, and physical pain," Churchill says.

"Often times when striving for something great, there’s usually a cost. There’s no glory without suffering. We worked hard for these images with much less time to photograph a short wedding than we planned."
