Close-up Photos Of People Eating Extremely Hot Peppers

Jozef Ibarr captures the crossover between food and cultural identity in this spicey portrait series.

Los Enchilados was created by asking the subjects to eat a habanero pepper. It's their reactions to the heat that brings life to the images. Some cry, others laugh. Most pucker up and squint.

Ibarr explains the series as "a photo-essay that explores a deep rooted Mexican culture for eating spicy hot peppers for the pleasure of its taste, or, as a cultural identity where real mexicans show their courage and their bravado where they can withstand anything in their way."
