Visually Striking GIF Portraits Of Bedouins In The Sinai

This series of portraits by Rubens Ben gives us a rare peek into Bedouin culture. The photos themselves are beautiful, but it's the GIF effect that makes them stand out most. The perfectly planned loop is magical.

This series was taken back in 2016 when Ben traveled with Bedouins in the Sinai for a week. He traversed the desert and learned first-hand about their culture, all while taking striking portraits of the people he met.

"My main goal with these GIFs was to portray the Bedouin lifestyle as raw and natural as possible," he says. "There was no setup / reflector / extra light or any artifice to the portraits. Only natural light and my camera."

The Bedouin I’ve met live a very simple life, and learn to survive with almost nothing.

That week of living with Bedouins was a beautiful learning opportunity, filled with adventure and new experiences. Most notably, Ben was impressed with their ability to live with a minimal impact on the earth. Bedouins are masters of desert living.

"The Bedouin I’ve met live a very simple life, and learn to survive with almost nothing," he says. "Their culture is also very close to nature, learning to use her without harming the ecosystem."

"We followed different guides and slept in different spots. We hiked for 3 days in the mountains then went to the coast. The Bedouin culture is one of the warmer you can find."

This series is just one chapter in a long list of other eco-focused photography trips. He can usually be found roaming remote location, camera at the ready. Find more adventurous photos stories on his website here.
