Meet The Adorable Pup Who Joined A Monastery and Wears Tiny Robes

According to Catholic tradition, St. Francis of Assisi was the patron saint of animals. It only makes sense for Franciscan monks to take care of animals in need.

But this group of monks in Bolivia just took things one step further: they didn't just adopt a street dog, they actually let him join the brotherhood. Meet Carmelo, the monasteries cutest new member.

Not only did Carmelo find a new home, he was also outfitted with a custom pup robe that looks just like his human brothers'.

Now to make the transformation complete, Carmelo was given a new name. Inside the monastery, he goes by Friar Bigotón, which means Friar Moustache in Spanish.

We're sure you can see the correlation.

His life is all about playing and running. Here, all of the brothers love him very much. He is a creature of God.

Sure, Carmelo enjoys playing with his humans, "preaching to the fish", and running around just like any other dog. But more specifically, his Friar duties include supporting the Proyecto Narices Frías (Cold Nose Project), an initiative that hopes to pair needy pups with monasteries.

"If all the churches of our country adopt only one dog and take care of it like Friar Bigoton, we are sure that the parishioners would follow his example," says fellow friarJorge Fernandez.

"His life is all about playing and running. Here, all of the brothers love him very much. He is a creature of God."

We're happy to hear that Carmelo found his "happily ever after" with the monks and hope more pups will find a safe home, too! You can check out the "Cold Nose" project here.
