In 1899 The French Attempted To Illustrate & Predict The Year 2000

Rewind the clock back some 115 years to 1899 in France, people were immensely curious as to what the future might hold, just as we are today. In fact a group of artists, lead by Jean-Marc Côté decided to use their collective imagination to predict the type of lifestyle we'd all be leading in the 21st century by creating a range of different illustrations and scenarios.

The follow series depicts those assumptions, that for some reason we'll be riding giant sea horses underwater, having our brains fried by technology, getting ride of all musicians and replacing them with automated instruments and all whilst the local postman casually delivers the mail in his flying machine....

It all seems a little bit far fetched and ludicrous, that is until you think about the effect mobile phone usage has on your brain, how anyone can create music on a laptop and that drones will now deliver your Amazon order....in fact the only thing we can't explain is riding the giant sea horses underwater.

But that too might reveal itself in the fullness of time.

Until then, take glance back at the bold predictions of yesteryear - as silly as some of them appear, many are surprisingly accurate.
