Stunning Images Of Japanese Botanicals Floating In Outer Space

When you think of outer space, you might picture shining stars, floating satellites or even astronauts bouncing around up there in the vastness of the Universe. One thing you're unlikely to see floating high above the earth though, is a bunch of flowers.

But that's precisely what happened, thanks to a collaboration between Japanese visual artist Azuma Makoto and John Powell.

Together with the aid of a 10 man crew, they launched a delicate white pine bonsai as well as 30 different species of flower (orchids, peace lilies and hydrangeas) into the stratosphere, photographing in breath-taking detail the unusual state of flowers, silently drifting high above earth.

The project is called 'Exobiotanica - Botanical Space Flight' and you can see more startling images shot using the GoPro right here

Magical don't you think?
