To say Matthew Rolston is a seriously talented photographer is understating things somewhat. The celebrity photographer can list the likes of Beyonce, Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie and even Oprah Winfrey in his portfolio. But his most recent photo shoot didn’t involve any celebrities or humans at all. That’s because he traveled to the Vent Haven Museum in Forth Mitchell, Kentucky – home of the infamous ‘Puppet House’.
It was there that he found a wealth of retired & abandoned ventriloquist dummies – characters that were once animated sidekicks, now discarded objects staring blankly into space. His vivid and powerful work genuinely brings out the personalities in each figurine, looking at each you have a sense of what they might sound like and even how they might act. He’s collated all the images from the unique shoot in a beautiful new book titled Talking Heads: The Vent Haven Portraits
In the meantime, here’s a few samples from the book and shoot itself – creepy, fun or odd? You decide.
