Ladies, don’t get any ideas here.
The worlds most popular childhood character Barbie, reveals her dark side thanks to the imagination of photographer Mariel Clayton. It doesn’t spell good news for her husband Ken (Were they even married? – Ed), in fact from being the model housewife, in his amusing series Clayton creates her as a psychotic serial killer, the smiling assassin, chopping and slicing away whilst going about her domestic chores.
And what of Clayton’s inspiration?
“I hate Barbie. I intensely dislike the stereotype that the “ideal” female fits no current authentic female form. You can’t get to be Barbie without an ocean’s worth of peroxide, 27 plastic surgeries and a complete lack of intelligence, so it irritates me immensely that this is the toy of choice women give to their daughters to emulate. Behind the vacuous perpetual lipsticked-smile lurks the black heart of the true sociopath, just like in real life.”
