There’s modern day fashion designers and then there’s Nicole Dextras - perhaps one of the most original of all. Every woman has a little black dress tucked away somewhere in the depths of her wardrobe and it’s this concept which is the focus of Dextra’s The Little Green Dress Projekt.
The fashion industry itself has a noticeable impact on the environment, from the toxic dyes & inks used, through to the harmful manufacturing processes which are used to mass produce millions of items. To highlight this, Dextra’s has assembled 28 organic dresses.
That’s right, organic.
Beautifully designed and crafted using nothing more than organic and locally sourced leaves and flowers. They even reference Coco Channel’s timeless sleeveless design.
It’s not the first exhibition of its kind, Dextras’ was also responsible for the “Weedrobes” series which served as the inspiration for this latest collection. These newly created dresses are part of the Earth Art exhibition in Vancouver, BC Canada.
The Weedrobes Wardrobe complements the series of wearables as a collection of fictional outfits for today’s eco-warrior. Like paper cut-out dresses, these garments made from leaves, flowers and edibles, represent a yearning for a fashion industry built on sustainable materials and practices. – Nicole Dextras
We reckon Jane & Tarzan would have loved them! And best of all, you can wear them with pride knowing that afterwards you can use them as compost!
