For those of you who might not be familiar with the term ‘Cosplay’ (コスプレ) it essentially means “costume play” whereby individuals dress up in various costumes (complete with accessories) to represent their favourite cartoon characters. It’s a huge subculture in Japan, where there are even certain districts in Tokyo like Harajuku dedicated to ‘Cosplay’ groups.
Ejen Chuang travelled around America to 6 different anime / manga conventions to photograph some of the best examples of Cosplay fanatics in America. Below are the brilliant results of his wonderful effort.
