Peculiar Portraits Of Japanese Lovers Sealed In Plastic

Japanese conceptual artist & photographer Hal, has his own unique take on “everlasting love”

That’s the motivation behind his stunningly vivid (and often bizarre) portrait series titled “Flesh Love”. Hal set about photographing lovers and couples in vacuum-sealed packs all whilst locked into intimate poses and positions normally reserved for the bedroom. Part S&M, part avant-grade and utterly eye-opening, Hal has this to say about his work:

When you embrace your lover, sometimes you wish to melt right into them. To realize this wish, I’ve been photographing couples in small or even cramped spaces like motel and bathtubs. As my work has become more and more intense, I’ve noticed that communication is indispensable. This time, I reached the point of photographing couples in vacuum-sealed packs, in a set that I’ve constructed in my own kitchen.”

The series is available as a book and an iPad app so make sure you check them out to experience more of his intense and remarkable work.
