Saturday night. 35 Police officers injured. 160+ arrests.
It paints a tragic picture of racial violence and a community that spun out of control. Violence erupted (literally) in the north London district of Tottenham on Saturday night. The local community were outraged at the police shooting of Mark Duggan a 29-year old father of four. He was shot after an apparent exchange of fire with the officers from Operation Trident, the unit which deals with gun crime in the African and Caribbean communities.
Racial tensions boiled over and the riot ensued – here’s a few photos highlighting the gravity of the events as they unfolded and the morning after.
Shocking and saddening in equal amounts.
